Bringing the Power of Play to Kenya

Posted on 11 October 2022

Play Action International is expanding its programme of enriching play programmes by brining the power of play to Kenya

Why Kenya?

Almost 1.13 million children of primary school age (6 to 13 years old) are out of school in Kenya. The situation has worsened due to the impact of COVID-19 related school closures, followed by drought in many parts of the country. Education is one of the most effective ways for people to break the cycle of poverty and our playgrounds and play-based programmes encourage children to go to school and enhance their learning. We want to have a positive, sustainable and lasting impact on 10 countries in the next 10 years and reach a million more disadvantaged children through play, and we’re very excited for Kenya to be our next stop!

How are we making this happen?

We are inviting 12 incredibly inspiring volunteers to join us in November 2022 in Kisumu, Kenya for an unforgettable adventure and to literally help us build our future and launch our Kenya programme. These amazing individuals will reimagine, renovate and revive the compound into our new Kenya headquarters, volunteer accommodation, and playground building workshop. They’ll transform an empty field at the neighbouring primary school into a safe, fun and exciting first Play Action Kenyan playground for children, that will boost their education as well as enable us to showcase our amazing work to new partners. Volunteers will get to discover the treasures around Kisumu and even go on safari to make their stay even more special.
