This time last week, Steve Hurril, was tying up his laces, ready, steady and set for one of the most famous runs in the world; The London Marathon!
Finishing in a time of 4:43:09 Steve ran in pride for Play Action International.
We asked Steve why he took on this marathon of a challenge…
“The honest answer is I’ve wanted to run the London marathon for years but never got a place and when I did, I had to defer because I needed a knee operation. And then it’s kind of a wasted opportunity to do it and not raise any money for charity. Ideally, I’d have started raising money earlier, but I really didn’t know if I was going to be able to run the marathon until super late notice!”
Steve still managed to raise an amazing £635 in less than a week. We are so grateful! The impact that Steve’s donations will have is hard to miss considering that… £15 can provide a drum set so children can dance to their own beat, £50 can provide a seesaw as part of a new playground, and £100 can provide play-based sessions, that’ll increase parent and child interaction!
“There was no doubt in my mind who I was going to be running for. This charity not only funds playgrounds, and enriches children’s lives, but all the other work they do is so important. From conservation of the River Nile riverbank, to their apprenticeship programme to get kids off the streets. I know that the money I have raised today will be enriching the whole community of East Africa.”

From using FSC certified printers for things like flyers, to recycling old truck types for our playgrounds, we are passionate about finding as many ways as possible to lead the way in reducing the environmental impact of international development projects.
We asked Steve how he found the London Marathon…
“It was honestly incredible, the atmosphere, the support, the pride. Just everything. People would be shouting your name, number or charity as you pass by. Every time it gave me that little boost that I needed.”
