Ryan from Bournemouth University recently signed up to the Uganda Volunteer Project, and he’s already setting the pace with his unique fundraising challenge!
“The distance from Bournemouth to Jinja is 6,115 miles so I have set myself the challenge of running 611.5 kilometres between October and July next year. This challenge will involve averaging around 15km every week for 10 months!”
Ryan has already taken on a local Parkrun and multiple 10k runs as well as the Bournemouth half marathon on October 10th! He has made an incredible start on reaching his goal, and we will continue to cheer him on from the side lines!
“This is not only a fundraiser for Play Action International but also a big challenge for myself to consistently hit this target throughout the year. Remembering the cause that I am running for will push me on to complete that extra kilometre every week!”
Bournemouth University have already recruited an amazing bunch of students like Ryan to head out to Uganda this summer. The team will be transforming an empty field at a local school into an exciting new, safe and colourful playground to create a legacy for children to learn and develop essential life skills as well as nurture their physical, psychological and social development through the language they know best – Play!
But it’s not too late to join them! Play Action International are hosting another online information session today at 6:00pm for students to find out more information and sign up to the project! We love what Ryan had to say about the project…
“When I found out about the Uganda Volunteer project with Play Action International, I jumped at the opportunity. By embarking on hard challenges, obstacles and great experiences we can raise money for an important cause and help improve the lives of children and young people who are not as fortunate as we are. This is something which I feel proud to be part of and have no doubt that this will be a remarkable and rewarding experience which I will take with me through the rest of my life.”
