My 9-week remote internship with Play Action International as a Brand Launcher was a rewarding and unique experience. Being tasked with Tanzania Kilimanjaro brochure and website page, I carried out a range of responsibilities that developed my personal and professional growth, as a brand launcher. Discussing the key tasks that I have completed as an intern during the course of my time at PlayAction International.

Weeks 1 to 4: Building Foundations

During my first few weeks, my focus was to recognise the tools that I was provided with and familiarise myself with the key aspects of my role. My first major task was to become proficient in Canva, and produce social media and Canva graphics. I started by rebranding online brochures for Kenya 2025 and Uganda 2025, to be released during September 2024. This process required updating the design elements and graphics to PlayAction International latest branding.

I also undertook image editing and uploaded these assets into our marketing resource database, ensuring they were ready for future use. During week 2, I expanded my efforts to update brochures to the latest branding of PlayAction International and create additional marketing material for flyers, pull up banners and A3 posters for three countries: Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Also, my meetings with Ashton guided me to set up the foundational elements of Tanzania website featuring Kilimanjaro, which marked a key phase in the project. The upcoming weeks, I was given the task to perfect the Tanzania website and publish it live.

Weeks 5 to 7: Navigating Challenges and Completing Key Tasks

Week 5, I addressed issues from previous weeks by ensuring the Uganda and Kenya brochures were accurately uploaded to the website, aligning with the branding guidelines. I also created Instagram story highlights for PlayAction International, converting brochure information into engaging, visually appealing content. Week 6 was focused on finalising work from earlier in the project. I focused on the feedback from both Jess and Ashton to enhance the quality of the materials that I produced and made necessary alterations. I also conducted research to improve the digital presence on university platforms, aiming to boost visibility and engagement with potential volunteers and supporters. So in Week 7, I concentrated on completing the Tanzania content. I updated my timesheet to reflect the hours worked and collaborated with Ashton to finalise the Tanzania brochure and website pages.

Week 8 and 9:

As my last week as a Brand Launcher, I successfully launched the Tanzania brochure, sign-up page, and welcome page on the website. This final push was crucial in completing the project and ensuring that all elements were live and fully operational. However, there were few elements of the Tanzania page that weren’t published at the time proposed, so I focused on scheduling social media posts to continue promoting the work from few weeks ago to engage PlayAction International audience.

Supportive: Working with Jess and Ashton

While independent work was a significant part of my role, the supportive meetings with Jess played a role in the success of my projects. Working closely with Jess and Ashton provided me with valuable insights and enhanced my ability to perform effectively to the team.

Conclusion: Brand Launcher chronicles

My time as a Brand Launcher with Play Action International was an insightful experience. From week one to week nine, I gained so much experience working independently and professionally to produce media graphics and website pages for PlayActionInternational. I have learnt being both collaborative and becoming independent is crucial to work professionally, so that the brand visual design is created to produce websites pages and online brochures for PlayAction International. So, this enabled me to understand the great impact that this has for children in East Africa and to create such wonderful playgrounds and future projects for them. During this internship, I was equipped with the essential skills in graphic design, project management, and remote collaboration. I am grateful for this opportunity to contribute to Play Action International’s Tanzania mission.

Thank you!
